pima-&-mcc-womens-soccoer-playerThe Aztecs came into John D. Riggs Stadium looking to perform a ritual. The Thunderbirds had one game left after the Aztecs came to campus. Pima Community College (PCC) had already taken the first game at their campus from the Lady T-Birds, 2-0. This game was played on Sept. 19, 2017. The women were already shutout and not looking to get shutout, again.

The Thunderbirds and Aztecs took the pitch at the regularly scheduled time, 4:30 pm.  The teams both were taking possession across the pitch. The first Aztec goal did not come until 17 minutes and 36 seconds in the first half.  Forward, Alexis Hernandez, No. 5, was the first Aztec to direct the ball into the back of the Mesa Community College (MCC) net. She could not have done this without the assist from teammate Kylee Martin, No. 6.

Both teams would play the rest of the half without any further goals. The second Aztec goal would not come after the halfway point of the second half. Annalisa Verdugo, No. 17, would direct the ball past MCC keeper Savannah Cornejo, No. 1. Verdugo would be assisted by teammate Taylor Inocencio, No. 9. The hardest part of this game would be near the finish. A Thunderbird put the ball in the back of their own net putting the Aztecs up 3-0. PCC outshot MCC 10-2. Pima would not have to defend the goal as the Thunderbirds would not even put a shot on goal.

The ladies would finish the season at Paradise Valley Community College and fall 4-2.  Details are not available for more description of the Paradise Valley game. What will the next season of women’s soccer bring us, only the future knows
