Events on campus this semester

The Fall 2018 semester is underway, and clubs, students, and faculty are busy preparing a slate of different event, festivals and concerts.

For students looking for events soon the new MCC president, Dr. Richard Haney, will be meeting with students at the Pizza with Rich event.

Also, currently ongoing is the faculty art exhibition at the MCC art gallery. The exhibit showcases the art instructors make when they are not teaching your classes.

The clothing swap, blood drive, and United Food Bank Distribution are all currently available in the student life center.
A big festival to keep your eye out for is the Fiesta Latina, a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month held from September 15th to October 16th.

Also, in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month speaker Saul Flores will visit campus on September the 27th.
When asked what event would be the most beneficial for students Associated Students of Mesa Community College President Erik Aguilar suggested the Glow-In-The-Dark Student Success Fair where students can get connected with events, clubs and leadership.

Aguilar said, “that’s where they’re going to be able to get as much information as possible…that’s my most favorite, the busiest and where we are going to have a lot of collaborations with the clubs.”
The Glow-In-The-Dark Student Success Fair will be held on September 18th and 19th in the Navajo Room from 10:00am-1:00pm.

The first play of the season is Doctor Faustus, an epic that has survived and been retold for generations, it runs from October 12-October 20th.

In November there are special sporting events honoring Veterans Day for men’s and women’s basketball.
Aguilar stated the importance of participation in the homecoming game, “This is the last year that we are going to have it. We really want to make sure that we kind of end it with a big bang.”

Aguilar went on to say, “We are going to try and promote it more and we are also going to try to work with athletics to find a way to make Homecoming spectacular…Homecoming, for sure is a top thing for us that we are going to focus on.”
