After a good start to their Monday night home volleyball match the Lady thunderbirds faltered in the final three matches to lose to the weaker-playing Pima Community College Aztecs. With the loss the Thunderbird Women’s Volleyball team falls to 4-9 in regular season play.

The visiting Aztecs played determined in both the first and second games of the match despite losing both games respectively.

Jumping out to an early 10-5 lead in Game 1, Pima’s mental mistakes and miscommunication allowed for Mesa to gain ground and take the lead thru the remainder of the first game.

Good serving by Cordae Caldwell and a focus on defense at the net became a rallying point for the team, winning the game 26-24.

The T-birds took the winning momentum into Game 2 of the night playing even more focused with solid serving and digs by Tommyka Henry and Jenn Nunez to win the game 24-21.

With few forced errors or missed opportunities, Mesa capitalized on Pima’s poor communication along with Mesa’s over all height advantage to finally close game 2 with a win.

From there forward the team lost control of the match, losing the final three matches in a frustrating show of play by the home Thunderbirds.

Despite continuing their well placed serves and good setting, the team fell apart with poor hitting and better play by Pima’s front line.

The next game for the Thunderbirds is at home against South Mountain Community College at Theo Heap Gym on September, 24.
