Making school top priority vital to students’ future
Everywhere we turn, there are people openly complaining about their money problems and the slump in the economy. It is impossible to go a day without hearing about rising gas prices or homes going into foreclosure.
The current economy is affecting everyone, but don’t let it interrupt your goals.
In hard times like these, students need to keep their eyes on the prize and stay in school. In an attempt to evaluate where our hard earned money should be spent, we all made lists of our needs and wants.
Some things on our wants lists were new clothes, trips to the salon, and going to sporting events
But our needs lists were smaller, all containing: food, shelter, transportation, and school.
We also decided to track where every cent had gone for the last month. Most of our money was spent on bills, but a lot of it was spent here and there on things we could barely remember.
Seeing that most of our money had gone towards the wants column on our lists, we decided this was not the best way to be spending money.
Think about it, is paying $100 in gas every two weeks on your oversized truck that you probably drive in by yourself every day worth dropping out of school because you can’t afford tuition?
If the economy continues to grow worse, don’t you think having a degree will be much more beneficial than having the most expensive Coach purses or Nike shoes?
We all love to go out to eat, but doing a little more grocery shopping wouldn’t hurt anyone.
It would actually be good for all of us, there is no doubt that it is cheaper, and it’s usually a more healthy option as well.
Starting at a community college rather than a university might sound boring, but it will definitely help your pocket books.
Are smaller classes, great teachers, and free parking really that bad? It’s only two years anyway.
There are also tons of scholarships that can help struggling students.
We agree that we live in a superficial world, but when everyone has to cut back on spending, everyone needs to think about what is truly important.
It’s a fact that people who graduate college earn about twice as much over a lifetime as students who only have a high school degree.
So we say, trade in the gas guzzlers, start using coupons, and stop complaining about the high costs of going to school. You will be glad you did later on.
