MCC cross country places well at Embry Riddle Invitational

The T-Birds Cross Country teams did well at the Embry Riddle Invitational over the weekend.

The Men’s team finished No. 4 overall while the Women’s finished No. 5 out of the nine schools that competed.

On the Men’s side, three T-Birds had top 10 finishers.

Gerardo Villagomez took 3rd place out of the 63 competitors and ended the race with a time of 00:27:41.223 which was only 14 seconds off the pace of the winner who was from Arizona Christian.

Chris Lessard and Blake Fisher also finished in the top 10 with Lessard finishing in 5th place with a time of 00:28:13.396 and Fisher taking home 8th place with a time of 00:28:43.743.

All three of the top 10 runners from MCC were less than a minute thirty off the eventual winner.

This was the best outing of the season for the men’s squad this season.

All 6 of MCC’s members placed in the top 40

On the Women’s side, it was Karlie Kjerstad leading all MCC runners with a time of 00:21:59.260 which was good for 20th place overall.

Alejandra Nova was close behind with a time of 00:22:26.020 which was good for 27th and Shanna Norton rounded out the top 3 for Mesa with a time of 00:22:28.370 which was good for 29th.

Arizona Christian was the top team at the event with the Men’s team winning the Invitational and the Women’s team taking home second place.

MCC is the home team for the next event on the schedule as they host the Thunderbird Classic Oct. 11 before the Region 1 championships on Oct. 27.
