MCC men’s basketball season-opener in Iowa

mcc-mens-basketball-playerMen’s basketball will begin away from Theo J. Heap Gymnasium.  The men have had 4 scrimmages to get ready for the regular season. The regular season begins at a tournament in Indian Hills, Iowa. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 was their last scrimmage against Bella Vista Prep at 6 pm. According to Coach Sam Ballard, the Reed Overhead Door Classic is the name of the tournament the Thunderbirds will be competing in.

Mesa Legend reporter cannot confirm the outcome of the previous scrimmages.  The Men were victorious in their last scrimmage against Bella Vista Prep, 82-63.  MCC was down to the visitors by 11-points with under two minutes to halftime. The men found a way to rally back and stop Bella Vista from taking a victory in Heap gymnasium. The men’s team consists of players from all over the continental United States of America. MCC Men’s basketball has players from Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri, California, Washington, Texas, Nevada, and Georgia.

The team consists of Sophomores at the college. There are only four Freshman that made the team, all of them forwards. The first home game is called a News Release. Ballard said, “It’s a team of ex-college and pro players that travel the country and play games.” This game comes on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017. Most of the regular season games will occur in the spring semester, once classes resume after winter break.
