Sizzling ‘Eagle Eye’ ends summer movies with bang

Wesley Colvin

Eagle Eye
Action-thriller
PG-13 for violence and language
120 minutes

Plot:
Jerry Shaw (Shia Lebeouf), a burnt out Ivy League dropout constantly overshadowed by his dead brother, and Rachel Holloway (Michelle Monaghan), the single mother of a musical prodigy fed up with her dead-beat ex-husband, are violently coerced into a plot with national and possibly global consequences by a woman who seems to be everywhere.

Review:
Don’t let anyone tell you that the summer movie season ended poorly, if anything, it just went out with a bang.
While Shia Lebeouf may be an acquired taste for some, he demonstrates Shaw’s broken heart, angry defiance, and selfless heroism extremely well in ‘Eagle Eye’.
Michelle Monaghan gives a new twist to the words anger and frantic desperation concerning her ex husband and her attempts to save her son.
A smart and deftly written script, the lightening paced direction of D.J. Caruso (Disturbia) and stellar supporting characters bring this thriller to life.
Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade) plays a skeptical FBI agent trying to make sense of the impossible Michael Chiklis (the Shield), the Secretary of Defense responsible for the military’s biggest mistake, and Rosario Dawson, an Air Force officers are all convinced there’s something else going on.
This movie turns an unlikely idea into a terrifying ‘what if’.
What happens when the weapons we use to defend our liberty become a threat to liberty itself?
Just don’t forget to breathe.

Grade: A+
