T-Birds cross country teams get 4th place at Thunderbird Invitational

T-birds cross country had another exceptional showing and this time it was on their home turf.

MCC hosted the Thunderbird Classic, which took place on MCC campus and consisted of an 8k course for the men and a 5k course for the women

Both the men’s and women’s teams finished 4th at the Thunderbird Classic.

The meet had eight teams, including division I Grand Canyon University and Embry Riddle.

MCC beat both of those teams.

Chris Lessard was the leader for MCC on the Men’s side, as he finished in 8th place with a time of 25:58.0.

Rounding out the top three for the Men’s team was Blake Fisher, who finished in 12th place with a time of 27:01.6 and Gerardo Villagomez with a time of 27:46.2.

The winning school on the Men’s side was Central Arizona College who fielded three runners in the top five which was good enough to seal the victory.

On the Women’s side it was Karlie Kjerstad leading the team with a 6th place finish and time of 19:15.3.

Rounding out the top three for the Women’s team, Vicky Taverna finished in 19th place with a time of 20:24.8 and Alejandra Nava finished in 21st place with a time of 20:30.0.

After back-to-back good finishes, the T-birds look towards the Regional Championships as the next goal which take place Monday Oct. 27.
