The T-Birds played hard but fell in straight sets against Yavapai College in the team’s latest loss.

Hanging tough has been the motto of the team all season as they have kept matches relatively close against a majority of their opponents but have managed to lose every game so far.

Yavapai was the team’s latest test.

MCC started off sluggish, but picked up speed towards the end of the first set losing 25-18.

The second set saw MCC play better, though they lost the game 25-20.

The T-Birds ran out of gas in the third set, losing 25-19 and, ultimately, losing the match in a 3-0 sweep.

The loss puts MCC at a 0-18 record for the season and is on pace to finish without a win for the first time in team history.

Yavapai, with the win, improves to 7-5 in conference play and 15-9 overall, which is good for fifth place in the conference.

Tia Kannapel led the T-Birds with 11 kills in the defeat with Hannah Marrang finishing second among the T-Birds with 8 kills.

Taylor Ka’alale led the team with 17 assists with Breanna Royer finishing with 13.

MCC seems to be playing better and better each game, which has been the goal all season according to Head Coach Matthew Werle.

He said he liked that his team didn’t give up easy points to errors, which has been the team’s Achille’s heel all season.

The scoreboard tells a different game from the stats, which showed that MCC was not as far off as the 3-0 sweep says.

With three games left in the season, MCC will look to win them all and with two games against teams under .500 there is a shot for them to do so.

MCC returns to the court against Pima on Oct. 22, and Scottsdale on Oct. 24 and wraps up the season against Glendale Community College on Halloween night.
