Weather delays set up guantlet-like schedule for T-Birds Soccer

MCC Men’s and Women’s soccer had two games each scheduled on Sept. 4 and 6 against Scottsdale and Phoenix respectively, plagued by weather issues.

While both of the Women’s games scheduled against Scottsdale and Phoenix were postponed due to poor weather conditions, Men’s soccer was able to play out their game against Phoenix College.

Men’s came up with a win, their second in a row, garnering a final score of 1-0 off of a goal made by Marlon Bonilla.

This marks Bonilla’s first shot, as well as first goal of five games played this season according to the NJCAA.

Heartland Community College tops NJCAA Division I, ranking currently with a record of 5-2-2, scoring 34 goals in their seven games played.

MCC Men’s soccer continues to work towards another shot at the playoffs, where last season they fell to Pima in the regional quarterfinals.

Women’s soccer meanwhile trails in the division, due to the postponement of two games scheduled, holding a current record of 2-1-1 and having won their last game against GateWay

4-0.

“We looked good the last

The Women’s team is off to a better start than last season when they started

off the season with a 1-4 record.

“These next set of games will be a test because everyone will have to contribute, I

am sure we will have a few injuries in that time frame,” Guarneri said.

Guarneri said that injuries are his biggest concern going forward.

“The one loss we had we were missing 6 starters due to injury, This set of games will be a big test

for us.”

While the games for Men’s and Women’s against Scottsdale have both been rescheduled

for Sept. 16, there has not
