Solid early season wins for both MCC tennis teams

The Mesa Community College men’s team won a hard-fought match against Phoenix Christian on Feb. 23, at Mesa Community College.  The Thunderbirds narrowly escaped with a check in the win column.

The final score for the match stood at 5-4 in favor of MCC. The MCC men’s tennis team plays their next conference match against Pima in Tucson at 11 a.m. The MCC women’s tennis team had a different experience Thursday as they won all nine of their matches against Paradise Valley.

The team kicked off their conference play with a series of dominating performances by the team’s top players. The T-Birds won all three doubles matches with perfect 8-0 scores and won all 6 singles matches, 3 of which were shutouts of 6-0. Yolanda Carlon, Khanh Huynh, and Naa Ankrah swept all their games in dominating singles performances.

The doubles teams Ankrah and Huynh, Carlon and Julia Ortiz, and Michelle Fournier and Hanna Nelson crushed their opponents with clean shut out victories.  Nelson, Ortiz, and Fournier also won decisive singles matches.  The MCC women’s tennis team plays their next game against Pima Community College at 11 a.m. in Tucson.
