On Jan. 20 Mesa will face Cochise College, in an away game against a team with only three losses so far this season. Cochise has turned in some fairly convincing victories, often ending their games with a lead greater than 30 points over their competition. Following this game, the T-Birds will face a team on Jan. 20 that is also struggling to have a positive win ratio in Scottsdale.  The two teams look evenly matched on paper, but similar records don’t necessarily mean anything.

Facing the team fielded by Arizona Western College in a rematch on Jan. 27, MCC will be looking to avenge the loss by 10 points they received on Nov. 25, 2015. One potential hurdle for MCC will be that this is scheduled to be an away game, with home court advantage going to Arizona Western. It might be a tall order for Mesa, as Arizona Western has only lost three games this season and may hold a psychological edge stemming from their previous victory. Preparation will be a key element in any victory that may come to the T-Birds, in this game. Another game that MCC will have to prepare for in the near future is on Feb. 20 is against fellow Division I Region I team Eastern Arizona College.

This will be the second time that the two teams meet this season, so some indication of how the match may end might be gleaned from the first game’s resolution. If their record so far is any indication, Eastern Arizona’s team will be a challenging contest for the T-Birds. The Division I Region I tournament will soon follow, and whichever team wins this tournament will participate in the NJCAA Men’s Basketball Championship for their division. It looks to be an uphill battle in the coming weeks for Mesa, but striving for success in the tournament is within reach.
