Movie Review: “Madea Goes to Jail”Comedy

PG-13

1 hour 43 minutes

Plot: After yet another run-in with the law, the self deemed “pistol-packing” grandma, “Madea” Mabel Simmons, has been placed in jail. While in jail, Madea takes a few young ladies under her wing and teaches them lessons of forgiveness. One of the ladies is Candace “Candy” Washington who was placed in jail for prostitution. Candy was led to prostitution after experiencing a traumatic event in college. Assistant District Attorney Joshua Hardaway came prepared to try Candace until when the time came to try he realized that the case had a conflict of interest. Hardaway was the person that Candace must forgive in order to move forward in life. Both realizing that the past could not be changed, they worked through the pain, Candy was able to forgive Joshua, and in turn he forgave himself.

Review: Keisha Knight Pulliam will always be known as “Little Rudy Huxtable,” but in “Madea Goes to Jail” it is a strange, but entertaining role to see. Keisha was dramatic; she embodied the role and gave it her all. Derek Luke, the star from Antwon Fisher was the caring and inspired character people had hoped he would be. Overall the movie was hilarious. You will laugh, cry and ponder the message that was embedded into the movie.

Madea was nurturing yet stern to her fellow jail mates, displaying her no-nonsense attitude and allowing for others to learn. The setting was great because it was relatable to everyday life. Everyone has a family member who is obnoxious and just believes it is their way or the highway.

Dr. Phil Donahue took this movie up to the next level when Madea visits him for an anger management session.

My only complaint would be to expand the message of forgiveness and why it is important.

At the very least the movie was heartwarming, funny and a definite must see.
