Business program to feature fireside chat with one of Kickstarter’s top consultants

Mesa Community College’s Music Business Program will be hosting a virtual fireside chat on April 27 with artist and business consultant Laser Malena-Webber to educate students about crowdfunding for musicians.

Webber and his sister are members of the touring band known as “the Doubleclicks,” which started in 2001 and have performed in the United States, Australia, and Europe.

Webber is a performer, podcast host, business consultant and author whose group has garnered over 4 million Youtube views with 10 independent albums and several viral music videos.

According to the Laser Campaigns website, Webber used his experience in crowdfunding, communications, content creation and project management to help artists afford to create music, games, films, and events.

Webber has helped reach over $2 million on Kickstarter and Patreon for musicians, game companies, and filmmakers by consulting with independent creators to help them raise money.

An announcement post related to the event sent to MCC’s employees stated that Webber has aided in the success of more than 70 crowdfunding campaigns through his consulting business, Laser Campaigns.

The business is one of a select group of consultants officially recognized by Kickstarter.

Since then, Webber has become the author of  “Crowdfunding for Musicians,” a how-to book for artists who want to achieve their indie music dreams.

Webber will look to explore what it takes to be a successful independent artist and music industry entrepreneur as well as how to get started with crowdfunding creative projects during the upcoming virtual fireside chat.

Webber has previously discussed how to build an audience alongside  a successful full time music career during a “Talks at Google” speaking event, which has gained over thousands of views on Youtube.
The virtual fireside chat will take place on Zoom on Saturday, April 27 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
