Get books for $1 and browse collectors items while helping student scholarship

An annual book sale that benefits Mesa Community College’s general scholarship fund will be at the Southern and Dobson campus library from March 18 through 29.

For the first time this year, credit cards will be available to purchase the books and DVDs, most marked between $1 to $3.

The sale would feature dozens of higher priced specialty and antique books that have been known to be sought after by book dealers.

Last year’s sale saw a 71% increase in sales from the last, raising a total of $3,047 for MCC’s general scholarship fund, according to Maria Salza, a library specialist with the college for over 15 years.

“We enjoy knowing that the books are gaining new life with a new owner. The scholarship fund is just the cherry on top!,” Maria Salza.

Salza said this year’s sale would incorporate a recent spring cleaning session at MCC’s Red Mountain campus, providing much of the sale’s general collection books sold at $1.

Books and DVDs would be presented this year in their respective Library of Congress in order to assist shoppers by desired interests.

Ahead of spring and summer holidays, Salza said items on subjects like history, recipe, and philosophy books were good gifts for loved ones and often the first to sell out.

Oversized and coffee table leisure reads would be available for $3.

The book sale this year was pushed to earlier in the semester to prevent what Salza said was an impact on student midterms.

The library sale will begin promptly as students return from spring break on March 18, and last until March 28 during regular library business hours.
