Eighteen campus owned Mac Books were reported stolen from the MU building on the main campus of MCC on August 14.

There are currently no suspects or any solid leads in regards to who stole the laptops.

The laptops were last seen back in April of this year towards the conclusion of the Spring semester.

The laptops were strictly for classroom use and were kept in the MU building when not in use.

They were locked in a secure rolling cabinet in the MU building, and were not touched again by authorized personal until the beginning of the current semester.

“I’d rather not talk about it,” said Craig Peterson, the faculty member who filled the report for the missing laptops.

According to campus security officer Ron Hayden, The cabinet containing the laptops was stored in a classroom in the MU building and originally contained 30 of the devices.

When the cabinet was opened back up at the beginning of the semester, the lock was discovered to be missing and there were only 12 laptops remaining in the case.

There are no security cameras in the MU building itself, so no suspects could be identified.

“The person could have been hiding in plain sight,” said Hayden, who was the officer in charge of the report.

Hayden went on to explain that students usually carry backpacks or some sort of bag while on campus; one could easily fit several of the laptops into a backpack and carry them out to their vehicle, or simply walk off with them.

Hayden also mentioned that the footage taken by the security cameras on the outside of the building can only be stored for about 14 days, and given the span of time in which the laptops could have went missing, there is no helpful footage available.
