There is still time for students to apply for the MCC creative writing competition for MCC students only.

It is the Spring 2009 competition and the categories include poetry, fiction and creative nonfiction essay.

“I’m really excited for this because it will be the first MCC creative writing competition in the last six or seven years,” said Josh Rathkamp, MCC’s Creative Writing Coordinator.

Entries must be works written during the students’ enrollment in credit courses at MCC and students who have previously won first place in a category are not eligible to participate again in that category.

Entries must also be received by Rathkamp no later than noon on April 3. All winners will receive scholarship awards that will be distributed at an Awards Reading and Celebration at noon on April 29.

“In addition to winning the scholarship, the awards ceremony will be an opportunity for students to read their work and get exposure by having faculty, friends and family hear it,” Rathkamp said.

First place winners will receive a scholarship award for $200, second place will receive one for $150 and third place for $100.
