Abrams is a solid choice

Dominic DeCono

When I heard J.J Abrams was tapped to direct the upcoming Star Wars films, I didn’t know what to make of it.

Now that I have had some time to really ponder it, Abrams is really a superb choice.

I know some die hard Star Wars fans are upset because he is also directing the Star Trek reboot but let me make my case for Abrams.

              Remember the TV show Lost?

              Yeah, that was his.

Abrams is also no stranger to the action movie scene.

He was a writer for the movie ‘Armageddon’ and later become a director and producer for the movies ‘Cloverfield’ and ‘Super 8’.

The guy has made a living off of making awesome action packed entertainment.

So yes, there is reason if you’re a Star Wars fan to be excited about Abrams.

Not only is he one of the best up and coming directors in Hollywood today, he knows how to make a genuine quality film.

As for the outrage over him directing Star Trek, it really isn’t a big deal.

Abrams has been a fan of the Star Wars series for many years and his own work is proof enough that he is more than capable of delivering truly great movies.

Besides, Star Trek isn’t in the realm of popularity that Star Wars is.

Am I worried that Abrams will produce a good movie?

Not at all, I am very confident he will live up to the golden standard that Star Wars expects.

What I am worried about is the fact that he may have to play the rules that Disney gives him.

I understand that Pirates of the Caribbean was a big success, but many of their other films in the past few years have been busts.

Disney took a huge risk by purchasing the Star Wars franchise, so if anything should give fans pause, it should be Disney, not Abrams.
