Coming off a 5-1 win against the Phoenix College Bears March 24 the Mesa T-Birds were looking to win another the next day. The Bears started off the first inning with two straight doubles giving them a 1-0 lead over the T-Birds. In the bottom half of the inning Jordan Zimmerman homered with Alex Gudac on base to give the T-Birds a 2-1 lead.
Down by one the Bears scored twice in their half of the second to only see the T-Birds tie it at 3 in their half. For the next two innings both teams were able to hold each other off the board. In the fifth even after scoring two runs the Bears felt that call were not going their way.

Audience members for the Bears, bears players, and coaches were complaining to the home plate umpire about the strike zone and balls that looked to hit some of the bears players.“The audience doesn’t even buy it” shouted the third base coach at home plate umpire about his strike zone. The Bears had a 5-3 lead. In the bottom of the six Jordan Zimmerman came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a base clearing double giving the T-Birds a 6-5 lead.
Then it was on to the Bears half of the 7th when they scored five times going ahead 10-6. Before the T-Birds could stage a comeback the daylight went out forcing the game to be called after 8 innings. The Bears had secured a 10-6 victory without having to face a determined Mesa team. “Today’s game was good we just ran out of day light to finish it up to come back with the win,” said Baseball player Alex Gudac. “We played well, we just had some rough pitching, in order to win we just need our pitching and hitting to be in sync. If the student body likes baseball they should come watch because we play great games that are always close and keep you on your feet.”
“It is always tough to come away with a loss, but we don’t worry about them,” said baseball player Brady Bate. ” Those games are done and over with its a new day. It’s always good to get out and watch a ball game, nothings better than watching some mesa baseball.” Jordan Zimmerman ended the night going 2-4 with a double, home run and five RBI’s. Alex Gudac went 3-3 in the game scoring two runs, scoring one RBI and walking twice. With this loss Mesa now drops to 13-4 on the season.
Next up the T-Birds travel to Chandler-Gilbert Community College March 3 for a 3 p.m. meeting with Coyotes and return home on the next day to meet the Coyotes at home at 3pm. Then it’s on to Cochise College to play a doubleheader at noon on March 7.
