Campus safety adds to their transit fleet

Advisement and enrollment services have been moved from the to Navajo Room to the Kirk Student Center due to campus improvements.

“The wait was decent and the times were pretty close,” said Amber Riojas in regards to wait times in the new location.  (The wait times were pretty close doesn’t really make sense. Close to what?)

Riojas did mention that she experienced issues with enrollment that involved her having to meet with them three separate times because they had her listed as an out-of-state student, even though she is native to Arizona.

The Navajo Room will be the destination for these services until construction is complete on the new enrollment center, which is scheduled to be completed in December of 2014, according to Jeff Darbut, Vice President of Administration Services for MCC.

“It’s pretty exciting,” said Darbut on all of the campus improvements.

The new “one stop shop” enrollment center will be approximately 17,000 square feet and consolidate enrollment, advisement, financial aid, records and other services to streamline the process and prevent students from having to travel to multiple buildings.

This is part of the new Student Village concept that is being put into place.

Other campus improvement’s that will be included in the Student Village are a drop off and pick up zone in the east parking lot to avoid clutter in the lot, and a testing center that will be placed in the current bookstore.

The bookstore itself will be re-located elsewhere on campus.

There will also be a new 8,500 square foot student center next to the current book store and will include amenities mirroring those in the current Kirk Student Center.

“These improvements should be good for the next 20 years,” said Darbut.
