Career and Re-Entry helps students get ahead

For any student in college, the process of choosing a major, obtaining financial aid, scheduling classes and balancing personal responsibilities with school work can be intimidating. But MCC is here to help. There are several resources available to help students realize and achieve their academic and career goals.

Some of the resources available here on campus include: career planning, academic advisement and counseling, all of which are free of charge.

Non-Traditional students, such as those who are returning to college after an extended absence, can find many helpful services at Career and Re-entry services.

At Career and Re-Entry Services, students can receive assistance with the enrollment process, applying for financial aid, setting up a student email address, and selecting the appropriate classes. The office is staffed with career advisers who can assist students in gaining a realistic view of their academic and professional goals.

It is possible for a student to work with the same advisor throughout his or her years at MCC. Because appointments are scheduled to last forty five minutes to an hour, students are offered individual attention.

This type of environment makes it possible for the student and the advisor to become familiar with one another and allows for advisement that is not only consistent, but also tailored to the student’s individual circumstances.

“I don’t know the answers,” explained Career and Re-Entry Services Program Advisor Paula Waybright, “I help facilitate finding the answers.”

The Career and Re-Entry Services Office is open Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays 8 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is located in Building 36 behind the Kirk Center.

Walk-ins are welcome and appointments can be made by calling (480) 461-7592. Additional information is available online at http://www.mc.maricopa.edu/students/career.
