Charity event helps local organizations

T-Bird’s women’s basketball team takes part in the annual SOL charity, selling tickets to an event that has helped not only their booster club, but many families, children, and needy organizations around the east valley. What started out with a lending hand, within a group of high school pals, is now a life changing event where; fun, laughter, and good food all become part of the annual “fiesta de SOL.”

The charity was created in 2006 when a group of buddies who played together on the same high school baseball team, had been informed that one of their friend’s 11 year old daughter was diagnosed with a very rare bone cancer.

Eager to help, Tim Vasquez, president of SOL, along with an entire crew of close friends, sponsors, and volunteers continue to hold the event each year.

Located this year at Diablo Stadium in Tempe, the charity had another exciting outcome, raising over $50,000.

Sitting above the Diablo baseball field, people enjoyed their night with many different activities such as, auctions, raffles and a sea of casino tables allowing them to gamble money that would also contribute to the charity.

Parents of students that had been helped by the Sol charity were more than thankful, and happy to take part in such an event.
