The Theater Department’s Improv Troupe known as Scripts on Strike was created by MCC student and group liaison Cody Davis in 2007.Two years later the troupe has taken of, with many of its members’ academic focus in theater and musical theater.

After an estimated 80 auditions were held on Sept. 2 and 3, the final members were confirmed on Sept. 4.

Members particpated in group exercises to build their trust with one another as well as practiced important learning skills for improv.

The fluid nature of improv comedy sets it apart from other styles like stand-up, as comics are unsure of what is going on or where it is going.

Trust if fundamental for Scripts on Strike members, as partners in the troop depend on each other and rely on them to follow.

“It’s like table tennis, reacting and trusting. thinking on the spot,” Davis said.

Their goal for the improv troupe’s first performance is to gain audience participation, including choosing teams to act out randomly selected scenes.

Students interested in auditioning for next year’s troupe are invited to attend Scripts on Strike rehearsal which are held Mondays from 4-6 p.m. at the Theatre Outback in the Greenroom number TH2.

MCC is offering a late start improv class instructed by Mace Archer, who has a decade of experience to share with students. The class begins Oct. 12 and is held on Mondays.

The first scheduled performance for Scripts on Strike is an all-ages show set for 7:30 p.m., Oct. 24, in the Navajo Room.
