Denver-based burger joint smashes into Arizona

Monica Vainauskas

Arizona has more than enough burger places to go around, but there has been nothing quite like Denver, Colorado-based Smashburger which is now available in Tempe.
Smashburger first opened its doors on Oct. 7 on College Avenue and University Drive, right on the campus of ASU which is now also Arizona’s first ever Smashburger, with another location in Avondale and one on its way in Phoenix.
This new business plans on sweeping the nation with 500-plus restaurants across the country, with 30-60 locations, this year alone.
Smashburger is a fast and casual restruant that’s main goal is becoming every city’s favorite burger place.
For those who are burger lovers, Smashburger is the perfect place for getting the best quality where you could eat in or take it to go.
For those who are looking for a quick meal, a casual date night, or a place for family and friends, Smashburger has a relaxed atmosphere.
What makes Smashburger so different from any other place is the quality and variety of choices, it’s even a place for picky eaters who like their meals specially made.
Customers have the choice of ordering one of the signature recipes or to create their own either in-store, online or by calling ahead of time
“I liked the variety of the menu,” said ASU student Rueben Malin. “I’m a very picky eater so I was glad that I was able to create my own from the different choices.”
Smashburger uses 100 percent Angus Beef for all their burgers which are never frozen but smashed, seared and seasoned on the grill.
With the use of the highest quality of cheeses, fresh produce and condiments, the business gives you the choices of a one-third or one-half pound burger with three different options of buns.
Even for those who are not burger eaters Smashburger still has a variety of things to offer.
This includes Smashchicken sandwiches, Smashsalads, even Smashdogs which are also 100 percent beef.
What to expect when going to a Smashburger is a lot of choices. From the pound of meat to the type of bun, smashburger really lets customers have it their way, along with a variety of side order they have to offer.
These include two options of fries, one being Smashfries which are seasoned with rosemary and garlic. There are also haystack onions, beefy chili and veggie fries.
Smashburger also offers root beer floats, Haagen-Dazs milk shakes and malts, along with selective wines and beer that customers could enjoy with their meal.
ASU student Joe Gallego, said that he would definitely return for a second visit.
“It’s at a convenient location and a delicious burger is enough to keep me wanting more,” Gallego said. “The Classic Smashburger is delicious! It has a new and exciting flavor that I’ve never tasted before. However, the Smashfries are a bit soggy.
