Eliminating the pain with unconventional workouts

Most students cringe at the thought of exercising. Students know that it’s really hard to be motivated to get up and get in shape. A few students at MCC have come up with some creative and fun ways to exercise without feeling the pain as much.”To this day I still cringe at the thought of exercising. I told myself the next time I did something to exercise I would do something that was fun,” said Kimberly Taylor.

“Just last week I climbed Usery Mountain with my boyfriend and a few other friends and got a good workout. It was mostly up hill and really wasn’t too hard but my heart was beating and I could feel the burn in my hamstrings and glutes,” said Taylor.

Exercising isn’t limited to just working out at the gym. There are plenty of other alternatives to getting a good work out while having fun.

“I really don’t like going to the gym because it’s really intimidating working out by someone who knows what they are doing when you don’t,” said MCC student Britney Andrews.

“I like to work out at the park using the bench as a stepping tool to work out my hamstrings. I also like to dance. Many think that dancing isn’t a work out but it really is. It actually gives you a good workout,” Andrews said.

With new technology coming out some video game consoles allow its users to work out.

The Nintendo Wii has a kit called the Wii Fit which includes activities anywhere from yoga to snowboarding.

“My first thought of the Wii Fit was how is a video game was going to make me lose weight,” said MCC student Clint Richardson.

“I tried yoga as well as the simple workout. The yoga actually was relaxing but was really difficult to hold the poses. I did get a good work out from doing lunges. I could actually feel the burn. This is an activity that I would recommend to other students. It’s something that works and is actually fun at the same time,” Richardson said.
