Facebook ad revenue leads to big profits

Facebook earned 1.25 billion dollars in advertising revenue for the first quarter of 2013, according to the company’s official earnings release.

This accounted for 85 percent of the company’s total earnings for the quarter.

This number was benefited from the company’s ability to now gain ad revenue from their service on mobile devices as well as their full site.

“With more people accessing Facebook from mobile devices, the company is successfully convincing investors of its potential to generate large revenues by using mobile to influence the masses,” said Andrew Yates, chief executive of social media relations for Facebook.

Facebook has also been increasing its ad revenue stream by offering its users the ability to promote posts and easily run an ad on the site.

Users who choose to promote a post have various pricing options ranging from $5 to $100.

At the $5 level users can expect an estimated reach of 1,500 – 2,900 people and at the $100 level the reach can be as high as 34 thousand people, according to the site.

Dan Levy, director of small business for Facebook, says the site now has over 15 million businesses with Facebook pages to help promote their business.

For those who choose to run an ad, the pricing varies based on a daily budget that the company sets for themselves ranging from $5 – $100 per day.

Amanda Moreta, a current MCC student, feels that the ads are somewhat effective, but can be a bit annoying sometimes.
