Usually the week before school starts students are embracing that one last week of freedom.
Embracing the last week of freedom might mean students are working longer hours.
Or it might mean students do little to no activity in preparation for the grind of a long semester that awaits them.
This is not the case of women’s basketball player Alli Gloyd and the rest of her Lady Tbirds teammates.
The Wednesday and Saturday before school started, presented two challenges for the Lady Tbirds on their home court.
First to challenge the Tbirds on their home court was the Lady Apaches of Cochise College.
It was a night that saw Gloyd, who had a double double with 21 points and 15 rebounds, asserting her will against the Apaches defense.
Also chipping in with 19 points was Kalasia Green who shot 6-11 from the floor.
When the smoked settled, the Lady Tbirds handed the Apaches a lose.
In what started out as close game ended up an easy win as the Lady Tbirds with a final score of 63-49.
Next to enter the Tbirds turf were the Lady Bears of Phoenix College.
This back-and-forth game between a scrappy Bears was dominated once again by Gloyd.
During this game she earned her fourth double double in a row notching 16 points and 12 rebounds.
With another victory over the Bears 55-43, the Lady Tbirds are now 13-5 on the season.
With playoffs just around the corner, the Lady Tbirds are playing a high level at just the perfect time.
The Lady Tbirds will be challenged as their next games all take place on the road which include a Jan. 25 match up at Glendale Community College and a Jan. 28 game in Yuma against Arizona Western College.
