Leaders and members of student clubs on campus promoted their groups at the Club Carnival on Feb. 18.  Held on the Clock Tower lawn, the event included music, games, treats, and the opportunity to learn more about student clubs.

Lloyd Allen, secretary of the Engineering Club, said seven people had already signed up at their booth the morning of the event; adding to the 40-50 active members who already attend meetings.  The Engineering Club also sold baked goods to raise money to buy the parts needed for projects.  “We are doing a bake sale to raise funds for our robot walker and our mile-high rockets,” Allen said.

The club also holds competitions and takes tours of local engineering firms.  “We go to local businesses like Boeing, Honeywell, or we also go to ASU Fulton,” Allen said.  Anyone interested can join, as long as they are an MCC student.  “You don’t have to be a major in (engineering), you just have to have an interest in it, and be taking classes at MCC,” Allen said.  The Engineering Club meets in PS 225 every other Thursday from 4:15 – 5:10 p.m.  For more information visit www.mccengineeringclub.org

The Quidditch Team also had a booth at the event, although it has not been officially approved by the student senate as a club yet.  Acting President Gloria Vantassel said there has been interest in the Harry Potter-inspired sports team, saying that the club carnival was a way to attract members to the new group on campus.  “We are going to start it on Feb. 24,” said Vantassel in regards to the club’s first meeting. “We are going to be out here (on the Clock Tower lawn) most of the time when we run.”

The Quidditch team will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. on the Clock Tower Lawn. For more information visit www.facebook.com/MCCQuidditch or contact Dragonfire.bluedragon@gmail.com
