This year MCC will be hosting “Green Week” with a series of events set to take place on campus through March 12.
“(This event was) mainly put together by myself, Associated Students of MCC and the Environmental Action Club with participation from various departments around campus (art, fashion, interior design, biology, horticulture, library),” said Environmental Sustainability coordinator Suzi Dodt.
The events will inform students on topics involving Arizona’s ecosystems.
“(Students will become) aware about a variety of sustainability issues. We will be covering topics dealing with Arizona ecosystems/nature, pesticides and your health, supporting local businesses, air and water pollution, water and energy conservation,” Dodt said.
She wanted students to not only gain awareness, but realize that being eco-friendly is not just a trend.
“We hope to bring awareness of why sustainability and ‘going green’ is not a trend.it is a way of life that will save money, protect health and protect the planet,” Dodt said.
According to the environmental coordinator, the term “going green” is more than recycling,
“Many people think ‘going green’ means recycling, but it is so much more than that. It’s about finding ways to waste less, improve your health, support your community and ensuring that there is some ‘nature’ left for the next generations,” Dodt said.
