Thunderbird Men’s Basketball extends to a hefty 14-8 record with a win Friday night, bouncing back from a short three game losing streak.
The T-birds return to the intense playoff grind pulling out a close victory against the Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes 61-54.
With only a handful of games left in the season, each victory is cruicial if the T-birds intend to secure a playoff berth this spring.
Last friday, the team received some sharp shooting from Asaad Woods, chipping in with 18 points on the night, six of them from three point land. Woods, who has been averaging a solid 13 points per game, was sent to the line five times as well, and with his free throw season average of 66 percent, made good on the stat shooting a solid six for 10 from the free throw line.
Also contributing with a double-digit offensive performance was Christian Griggs-Williams, who shot six for 10 from the field, pulling down five boards, and sinking eight free throws for 20 points total.
As a team, the Thunderbirds shot more than 46 percent from the inside the arc, and a respectable 33 percent from downtown.
Additional scorers Elliot Fletcher, Jarrett Green and Brendan Pineda added to the fray with a total of 23 points and nine rebounds combined.
The only observable downside to the Men’s victory was the slight lack of depth coming the bench, as the starting five were the the only gentlemen able to put points up during game.
As the season wraps up stop in to support the team during their next two home games at the Theo Heap Gymnasium.
Games are this Wed. Feb. 8, 7:30 p.m. against Pima and Sat. Feb 11, 4:00 p.m against Central.
