Newman Center offers events to bolster faith

On Nov. 21 the All Saints Catholic Newman Center at ASU held its monthly Behold event. Young Catholics arrived at 7 p.m. to hear a special guest speaker Stephen Bauer and attend adoration.

Ashley Montag, an intern at the Newman Center, detailed the importance of the gathering.

“We realized that it’s really important for us to really nurture our faith, and just spend time with Jesus,” Montag said

“That’s something that gets overlooked a lot,” she said.

She stated that the Newman Center has three major weekly events.

A theology discussion is held every Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.

“We go into the basement of the old church and we bring our dinners and we just have a round table discussion about a theological topic,” Montag stated.

Wednesdays at 7 p.m. the center hosts an event called Quivadis, which is Latin for ‘where you’re going.’

“The event is designed to be a time for students to come and learn how to pray. That’s a big thing that students struggle with,” Montag stated.

She stated that Thursday night hosts the center’s main juncture.

“On Thursday is our main flagship event College Night. It’s where we try to bring everyone in, and we all have time to get to know each other. Usually there’s a topic of the night,” Montag said.

Montag stressed that the center is open to all faiths.

“We encourage Catholics to come, but we’re open to whoever wanders though our doors,” she said.

“There’s a definite value to sharing your faith experience to other people who aren’t of the same faith because there’s a lot of things we can learn from each other,” she said.

Bauer stated that events at the center are vital to young Christians because it strengthens their devotion.

“Faith gives [young adults] direction. It gives them hope and meaning,” he said.
