Readers respond to campus gun control

Online user John Hardin:”… We’d have a bunch of armed vigilantes that have no discretion whatsoever.”

That is bigotry, pure and simple.

If lawful carry was so problematic, if those licensed to carry firearms were so eager to use them and had such poor judgment, then there would be a large number of unjustified shootings by non-criminals off campus. Please point to them.

There is nothing magic about the boundaries of a college campus that makes otherwise responsible gun owners turn into bloodthirsty vigilantes when that invisible line is crossed.

And before the “do you really want to give guns to drunken fratboys” argument appears, that’s not the proposal.

Every proposal put forth is to allow campus carry for those who have a license, typically a CCW license.

Licensing involves fees and training and background checks that a drunken fratboy isn’t going to have the patience or commitment for.

“It would add to confusion if police ever did respond to an incident…”

By the time the police do respond to a shooting, the person who was engaging in lawful self defense will likely already have re-holstered his firearm.

If not, he will drop his firearm when instructed to do so by the responding officers.

Online user justsumstuff:

I am female, I have limited physical abilities, a gun is the only way for me to be equal in a “fight”.
