T-Bird Sports Academy offers kids a summer alternative

Looking for somewhere to send your 3rd to 8th grade children this summer? Are they interested in sports?
Well Mesa Community College is hosting their first Thunderbird Sports Academy.
The event is focused on improving children’s athletic capabilities and it runs June 8-12.
The program will run from 8 to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The camp is focused on providing children a structured program allowing them to choose three different sports of their interest, which can include Track and Field, Basketball, Golf, Tennis, Soccer, Volleyball, Football, Softball and Baseball.
The choice made will remain consistent and fluctuate between the three sport decisions each day to provide fun, skill and building knowledge.
It will be necessary for the kids to bring their own equipment in order for the MCC coaching staff to meet the needs of each child.
The idea for the camp originally came from Athletic Director Jeff Fore, who was once a coach at a Division II team, in collaboration with Assistant Basketball Coach and Camp Director Joshua Kutchinski to differentiate the program by creating an extended care program which allows parents to leave their children in the hands of MCC’s quality sports faculty for a fee of $50 and provides extended service until 5 p.m.
This camp is aimed toward the fundamentals of building sports skills in each child reached through the program.
“Overall expectation is the future. We want to have about 300 youth. The long range goal, is possible recruits, which emphasizes the importance of a great experience at Mesa Community College,” Kutchinski said.
MCC faculty and staff will receive a discount of per camper when enrolling children into the kickoff of the Thunderbird Sports Academy.
