The Mesa Thunderbirds did not mess around. At all.
In a 43-0 stomping, the T-Birds raised their record to 3-2, including 2-0 against the Aztecs.
“It’s a team with leadership… I just try to lead these boys. You lead them and they follow. Come together as a unit,” said Malik Barnes, a defensive lineman.
Barnes had an impressive night defensively, making a safety that put the T-Birds up 2-0 in the first quarter, and from there, the T-birds never looked back.
There were others who had impressive nights, including defensive back Conner Brinton who had a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter, and Carlton Williams with two touchdowns.
The crowd went into a frenzy for each interception, which were not in short supply for Mesa, with 5, and that is not to mention the excitement for the scoring tirade that defined the game.
“We had a great week of practice, and the guys bought into what we were trying to get done. We came out and executed,” said Coach McKinley, the defensive coordinator for Mesa.
Tristan McClelland had a 60-yard touchdown, and Jaymason Lee had a 25 yard touchdown to propel the T-Birds to a victory over the Scottsdale Artichokes by a score of 20-7 on Oct. 6.
