The dynasty comes first

“You play to win the game.” It’s that simple. No matter what game or sport is being played, the objective is to win. Some people think it’s about having fun, but how can you lose and enjoy it? You can’t. If you want to have fun, you have to win.

For that one reason, I don’t blame Lebron James for leaving Cleveland to team up with fellow all-stars Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.

Some people think he betrayed his hometown Cavaliers, citing that Jordan, Magic, and Kobe did it with the organization they started with. So what?

Shaq is one of the most dominant centers to ever play the game. Nobody talks about how he didn’t win any of his four rings with the Orlando Magic, who he started his career with. Players change teams. It’s a fact of sports.

I’ve been saying the best players should take pay cuts to team up with each other for as long as I can remember.

Wade is a former MVP candidate and he won a scoring title just two years ago. Chris Bosh was sixth and ninth in rebounding and scoring respectively. Significant upgrades from Lebron’s counterparts in Cleveland.

Shooting guard Mike Miller shot 48 percent from behind the three-point line last season and Zydrunas Ilgauskas was Cleveland’s center when Lebron was there.

With Pat Riley, a five time NBA Finals winner as a coach and a man who, I believe, will end up coaching this team at some point, running the front office. This team is a significant upgrade for Lebron, in the front office and on the court.

The general consensus was that the winners of this year’s free agency season would be whoever got Lebron and whoever could combine two superstars.

The Heat got Lebron, the reigning back-to-backMVP, and combined him with two superstars. Only fools turn down a dynasty and King James is no fool. Vince Lombardi knew what he was saying when he said, “Winning isn’t everything. It’s the only thing.
