Volunteers welcome students to spring semester at Mesa Community College
Welcome Week volunteers greeted students at Mesa Community College to assist during the start of their spring 2024 semester.
It is hard to miss the sight of a blue tent or table on MCC’s Southern and Dobson and Red Mountain campuses with staff greeting and guiding students.
Volunteers could be found on campus leading students to classes during the start of the morning and afternoon in the first week of the semester.
Volunteers handed out maps, brochures, pens and pencils, MCC swag, and even sweet and savory breakfast items students can enjoy on the way to class.
“We want to support our students as they come to the campus so we’ve spent a lot of time providing directions for students primarily but we do offer refreshments as well,” said Marcy Snitzer, MCC Associate Vice President of Communications and Welcome Week volunteer.
These volunteers have already become an established part of MCC’s first week of school for every semester and students have been using this resource for some time.
Welcome Week volunteers are tied with the Student Life and Leadership department, whose focus is to build upon student engagement and make sure they are making the most out of their experience at MCC.
“This has been happening at the beginning of each semester to guide students,” said Allison Nguyen, Student Life staff.
Nguyen explained that these Welcome Week volunteers mostly consist of MCC staff members looking to make sure students who arrive on campus know exactly where to go and feel comfortable in the environment.
