Letter to the Editor
As an active member of the student body here at MCC, and a regular reader of the Mesa Legned, I must admit that I am disappointed by the lack of integrity in regards to the reporting displayed by the Legend. In a recent article concerning the Smoke-Free initiative on campus, the Legend reviewed the issue and quoted several members of the administration.
It did not, however, include any representation from the students on their own opinions about the initiative.
In addition to the gross negligence by a periodical that is meant to inform students about student issues, a photograph of students at a designated smoking area on campus was captioned, “A group of smokers used profanity when voicing their feelings on the proposed ban.” That was all.
The Legend reported on a statement made by a student without including the speech used to convey their point, censored for decency or not.
I am dismayed by the fact that the Mesa Legend has become yet another in a long line of news sources to prove so stereotypically biased in pushing the agenda of the people who write for it, but who we trust to provide an accurate representation of the facts.
