The Mesa Track and Field team traveled to California for the UC San Diego Triton Invitational on April 23 and 24. The event was host to athletes from number of DI schools such as UCLA, UCSD, and Loyola Marymount.

The event brought together some of the best student athletes from across the nation.

Mesa produced a strong performance from a number of athletes. Highlights include Samantha Meyerhoff’s personal best performance in the steeplechase, which earned her a third place finish. Her time of 11 minutes and 37.6 seconds was a full 20 seconds better than her old record.

Hailey Hanna also set a personal best in the 5000m, improving her score by 15 seconds with a second place finish of 17 minutes and 42.89 seconds.

Clark Coyle finished tied for first place in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.18. The race was so close that a winner could not be determined from the photo finish.

Mesa finished 3rd in the 4x400m relay, coming just over a second out of first place.

Robbie Haynie also had a strong showing, finishing in eighth place in pole vault and long jump and fifth place in high jump.

The team looks to build on this as they prepare for the region championship on May 11.

If the team continues to perform as well as they have been, they look to send a number of athletes to the NJCAA championships on May 20.
