BCS bowl game wrap up

It’s mid January. The five BCS bowl games have been played, and a National Champion crowned. In the BCS national Championship game Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton and his Auburn Tigers took on Doak Walker award winner LeMichael James and the high octane Oregon Ducks. Though, the Ducks high scoring offense was unable to deal with the superior defensive play of the SEC battle hardened Tigers, falling to Auburn 22 to 19.

In the “grand daddy of them all,” the Rose Bowl, the undefeated Texas Christian University Horned Frogs took on the Big Ten champion Wisconsin Badgers.

In another extremely tight bowl game the Horned frogs were able to edge out the Badgers 22 to 19 and gain the respect they so rightfully deserve for three seasons of stellar play in the smaller Mountain West Conference.

The Sugar Bowl pitted the Big Ten runner up Ohio State Buckeyes, against the SEC runner up the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Though, in recent history the Buckeyes have been foiled by faster SEC teams.

This year they would break the chain and defeat the Razorbacks in a nail biter of a game, which came to an end when Solomon Thomas intercepted Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallet to thwart Arkansas would be game winning drive. The final score was 31 to 26

Pac-10 champions The Stanford Cardinal vanquished the ACC champ Virginia Tech Hokies in an embarrassing dismantling of Frank Beamer’s squad. Coach Jim Harbaugh and his All-American Quarterback Andrew Luck pulled no punchs in the 40 to 12 rout in Miami’s Orange Bowl.

And finally in the Fiesta bowl, the number seven ranked Oklahoma Sooners abused the unranked Big East champion UConn Huskies to the tune of 48 to 20. Which for Oklahoma Coach Bob Stoops makes a third successful trip to a BCS bowl game, and gives him a victory in 3 of the 5 BCS games.
