Celebrity stunts keep fooling Americans

The View

Obnoxious celebs desperately seeking attention definitely have problems.

Ahem, Narcissism anyone?

However, the only thing worse than fame starved celebrity is the American consumers of pop culture.

We complain about the unapologetic nature of these attention fiends, yet contradictorily feed into all of the hype.

For example, Miley Cyrus received harsh criticism after her now infamous VMA performance in which she stripped into a nude bikini and “twerked” on stage.

The obvious backlash, as well as collective embarrassment shared by a large portion of the internet against Miley didn’t seem to correlate with her album sales, however.

The day after the VMA’s Cyrus  dropped her single, “Wrecking Ball,” which almost immediately broke billboard sales records.

Why does this happen? The answer is simple.

Celebrities often pull publicity stunts to gain press for an upcoming project.

Basically, the Kim Kardashians and Kanye Wests of the world have strategically planned to gain the public’s attention by publicly committing social taboos.

This formulaic plan drawn up by publicists and has-beens alike is often so successful because the general public are a bunch of fools.

Let’s not be pawns in their silly game any longer.

The solution is easy and effortless.

First, we must ignore the celebrities, musicians, and politicians who consistently offend.

Do not buy their records, do not see their movies, and do not share anything about them via social media.

Lastly, to combat our society’s obsession with hot mess celebrities, we must promote stars who stand for something positive.
