Edward Snowden is a patriot, not a traitor

Edward Snowden, patriot or traitor?
Many look at Snowden as a person who betrayed his country, and did something wrong against the people.
I believe different.
He worked as a system administrator with the National Security Agency, and while working there, he found things being done to the people of America, that were not ethical or right in certain eyes.
He released classified information to the public, informing everyone what really was going on with the NSA and how it was being done.
As soon as he did this, he needed to flee the country, and hide as he was going to be arrested and most likely charged with everything the government could throw at him.
Yet, if he had done the exact same thing while working for a company like Google, Microsoft, or even Apple he would’ve been protected by the law instead.
He wouldn’t have to leave his life in this country and flee and hide
