MCC will be hosting its annual faculty art show Oct. 4 to 14 in the Navajo room in the Kirk Center.Sarah Capawana, chair of the art and photography department, stated it is a great forum for students to meet the art faculty and gain a new interest in the arts.

There will be close to 30 faculty artists from MCC featured in the show.

On Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m., there will be a reception giving anyone interested a chance to meet the art faculty.

Capwana stated the importance of art students getting to know the art faculty and see that they are not just teachers but working artists as well.

The reception and art gallery are free to all.

Capawna stated there will likely be some music students from around campus who come to perform during the exhibit. There will also be free appetizers and desserts served.

“That always brings hungry art students to the reception” Capawana said.

Capawana has been organizing faculty art shows at MCC for 20 years.

She stated that, in the future, MCC will receive a permanent gallery space.

“We are . looking forward to having a space where students can learn in and participate in, as well as exhibit not only student work and faculty work but work of a national scale,” Capawana said.

She stated that faculty gallery shows have attracted new students who never considered art before.

“It’s a really good chance for students from a diverse range of backgrounds . to experience art on a first hand basis,” Capawana said.

Capawana expressed that stimulating more interest in the arts is very important to the academic environment of MCC.

“Creativity is not just something that happens in the arts, it happens in every area of academia,” she said.
