Halloween bash without breaking the bank

Halloween isn’t just for the kids. Attending the best Halloween party is on most college students mind this year, and someone has to throw it.

In order to make sure everyone is going to want to attend the party, make sure to have a killer set up with decorations, punch, and the whole nine yards.

Now is the best time to start getting ready.

Gather some friends to help out and give yourself plenty of time to prepare. Let everyone know about your party first so that your bash will be the one to go to.

The second step is to find a location. Many college students live in small apartments with roommates so you might not want too many people coming inside. Some apartment complexes will let you use the pool as long as you give them notice.

Another way to go is to find someone with a house and a big backyard.

Whichever method you choose, setting up the party with decorations is the most important thing.

To find all the necessary Halloween supplies and to save money, avoid the popular seasonal stores and go to your local arts and crafts store. To set the scene pick up some orange and black fabric to drape around the pool fence, walls or backyard. A fake caldron is also a great touch for holding blood-red punch or other Halloween items.

One fun thing to plan is to have everyone dress up and give out prizes for the best dressed, most creative, scariest, best couple etc. Guests can throw in money to participate in the contest and if you get enough people it could even cover the cost of decorations.

When talking with Nate Jackson, a self proclaimed Halloween junky, he said, “The best way to have the most original costume is to do it yourself. All the stores you go to will have the same stuff as the last. Go to your local Goodwill or thrift store and put something together.”

“Last year I was the guy from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I won best costume and got it all from the Goodwill. I took it a step further than anyone else and shaved the top of my head, but it was totally worth it,” said Jackson.
