Homecoming celebrations

Amid more advertising than the year before, MCC’s Homecoming saw what some described as a meager turn out. Whiskey Ranch provided free food; pulled pork or chicken sandwiches, coleslaw and beans.

“The food was really really good,” said Luis Garcia, MCC student.

Garcia also enjoyed having the event outside. “It’s really fresh and comfortable,” he said.

Students could have a caricature of themselves drawn, get their face painted or have their palm read.

Savanna Sandrock, MCC cheerleader, had her palm read.

“She said I’m going to be successful later in life. She said I get too serious in life and I need to lighten up,” Sandrock said.

Sandrock’s mother, Tammie, also attended the event.

“We didn’t know what to expect. It’s a nice little thing here. It’s a shame more people aren’t here,” Tammie Sandrock said.

Zona Bailey, who helped coordinate the event, stated the turnout was over 600 people, which was what they expected.

“We were giving out wrist bands at the entrance, so that’s the number we’re going off of,” she said after the event.

A turnout of slightly over 600 people out of more than 20,000 students can seem disappointing.

“It’s a question we’re always working on. How do we get more people to come out,” Bailey said.
