Lady T-birds put up fight against Artichokes

The MCC Lady Thunderbirds soccer team had a difficult time stopping the Artichokes of Scottsdale Community College. Both teams came out energetic and ready to play. SCC just seemed to have their game plan a little more organized.
The first goal of the game was scored by No. 15, Kaila Hosher, of the Artichoke’s on an assist from a teammate.
Mesa was quick to put the pressure back on SCC, but good defense and offensive mistakes prevented MCC from scoring any early points.
Just under the 25 minute mark, No. 21 Crystal Maynes of MCC made what one fan called, a “magic trick of a kick” to even the game at one point each.
Not long after, No. 9 Rebecca Mosher of SCC was charging down the field to make a goal, and push the Artichokes ahead by a point.
With their backs against the wall, Mesa had a defensive breakdown and Scottsdale took full advantage of it, scoring again in less than a minute.
Although the score was 3-1, the Thunderbirds held their heads high and tried to rally themselves back into the game.
Then along came Casey Grant of SCC scoring another goal, and taking the life out of the small but vocal Mesa crowd.
A student attending the game said, “This is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.”
He was referring to the game score now being 4-1, as he walked out of the stadium.
And that is exactly what happened as SCC scored twice more extending their lead by five points and stealing the game.
The Mesa girl’s soccer team is now 3-11-2 for the season with two games left before tournament play begins Oct. 27.
