London calling study abroad students

Students are expanding their knowledge and culture by getting the chance to experience a different way of life. MCC offers a fantastic study abroad program that includes several interesting places all over the world.

The study abroad line up for 2010 will include seven to nine programs to choose from. Destinations offered include Ireland, Britain, Prague, China, Jordan, and Mexico.

MCC student, Stetson Kizzar traveled to Prague during 2009 summer session one and decided to change majors when he returned.

“I am majoring in business, originally I wanted to study accounting but as a result of my experience in Prague, I changed my major to International Business Management,” Kizzar said.

“The future of the business world is going to be more global nature and I want to be a part of that.”

From Kizzar’s experience, he and other fellow students decided to form an on campus club about studying abroad.

“Our purpose is to work with the International Education Department to promote study abroad programs and to use our experience as study abroad alumni to help new students get scholarships, financial aid, and fund raising, as well as to help them get through the application process with the least amount of stress possible,” Kizzar said.

Many of the study abroad programs are offered during a four week period of time and are available in summer sessions one or two.

Every program varies in what’s included; all study abroad programs consist of earning college credits, accommodated housing and some of the programs cover airfares.

Students who are in the program will be taking the offered courses Monday through Thursday and will have their nights and weekends to explore and can participate in planned cultural discursions.

The costs of programs vary due to meeting currency exchanges, housing, and airfare charges.

Students can apply for scholarships and grants that are specifically created for studying abroad programs.

MCC’s Maricopa Scholarship Grant Program and Education Abroad Scholarship are two financial aid options that are available.

Information on applying for studying abroad is as easy as stopping by building 41 and talking to Education Abroad Coordinator, Yvonne Schmidt.
