MCC hosting T-bird Shootout over break

It’s a tough era for any pop icon. Paparazzi follow these people everywhere, and keeping a private life is nearly impossible.
When you are the richest athlete in the history of America, this task is even more difficult.
Tiger Woods has handled this as well as anyone could though, somehow managing to keep his family out of the limelight. In the past, nearly all the news surrounding Tiger has been about his dominance in the world of golf or his occasionally questionable antics on the golf course.
His private life, on the other hand, has been just that, private.
That is until now. In one night, Tiger Woods has literally crashed himself right into the headlines for all the wrong reasons. No longer is Tiger Woods being recognized for winning the US Open on a bum knee, or setting course records.
Early in the morning of Friday, Nov. 27, police were dispatched to Tiger’s neighborhood after his neighbors reported an accident.
Tiger was hospitalized after coming in and out of consciousness at the scene.
Though the injuries turned out to be minor, Tiger has a far bigger problem on his hand. The media loves to jump on stories like this and often blows them way out of proportion. Every news agency from ESPN to CNN has featured a story on the developments of the incident for days now.
Honestly, Tiger has handled this situation as well as anyone could expect. He has been very quiet about the situation, giving the media as little to go with as possible.
Maybe he hopes this incident will fade from the spotlight if he remains quiet. And who could blame him? This is obviously a very embarrassing situation for him.
US Weekly recently released an audio recording that indicates he may have been involved in an affair with a 24-year-old Jaimee Grubbs. In the recording, Tiger allegedly requested that she remove her name from her voice mail because his wife may be calling her soon.
If this is true, and Tiger did have an affair, obviously he exhibited poor judgement.
That said though, as inhuman as his golf game may be, Tiger is still human. It seems that this has been forgotten by most. People make mistakes like this everyday, but for most, these matters are handled privately within the home.
The media needs to give Tiger a break. This situation has damaged and embarrassed him enough. No one knows quite exactly what happened that night between Tiger and his wife other than the two of them. Tiger is keeping quiet about it, as he should.
When Bill Clinton found himself in the same situation, he made the mistake of lying about it. Tiger was smart enough to keep his mouth shut.
What he and his wife decide to do from here is up to them.
There are much more important topics in the news to talk about than this though. Sure, ESPN should cover the story because they focus solely on sports. For CNN and Fox to give the story more than minimal coverage, though, is overkill.
He didn’t break any laws, and he didn’t do anything wrong to anyone but his wife and himself. Unfortunately for Tiger though, the backlash will most likely continue for awhile. 2009 Participants:
