MCC workshop to feature acclaimed singer, songwriter

ting workshop featuring critically acclaimed singer/songwriter Jill Cohn.The four night one-credit-hour workshop will be held March 3 and 4 and the following week on March 10 and 11, 7 to 10 p.m. each night. Following the workshop, on March 12, Cohn and her students will give a performance open to the public on the MCC campus.

Jill Cohn is an accomplished singer/songwriter whose songs have appeared on several television shows, including “Party of Five”, “Dawson’s Creek” and “Smallville”.

The Seattle based Cohn has been touring for over 10 years, opening for well-known acts such as Jewel and The Dave Matthews Band.

Cohn has released eight CD’s with her latest being, “Every street inside of youMexico City”, which was released in the spring of 2008.

Besides writing and performing, Cohn co-writes with other songwriters. She also helps other song writers develop their writing skills.

She will cover several topics in the workshop, overcoming inhibitions, getting into the mode of writing, sharing techniques of other writers, writing a well crafted song, honing skills and how to self edit songs.

The class is open to all levels, beginner to advanced, from those who have dreamed of writing songs to advanced songwriters who want to improve a song.

It’s not only for singer/songwriters, but for lyricists as well. It covers every genre of music.

The class is designed so that people can learn in class, go home and work on it, and return the next day or the next week with works in progress that they can complete.

The workshop will also focus on how to get songs heard, and how to meet and connect with other musicians, and how to pitch demos.

During her stay in Phoenix, Cohn will also perform at Paradise Valley CC on March 11 at 11 a.m. in the student center, and also on March14 at The Fiddler’s Dream, 1702 East Glendale Avenue, Phoenix, at 7:30 p.m..
