Procrastination prevents students from reaching potential

Procrastination is a complex behavior based on the inability to effectively manage time, and affects everyone. It is the habit of putting tasks off to the last minute. One of the most significant aspects in life is organization and the capacity to apply it in every single activity we do.

“I tend to usually wait until the last minute to do things,” said MCC student Kevin McCrady.

“I don’t manage my time that well. Especially when it comes down to me picking what is important and what isn’t,” McCrady said.

In the majority of the cases, the person or procrastinator knows exactly what to do and how to do it. However, people tend naturally to avoid difficult activities and switch them for the easier ones.

“When it comes down to studying for a test or watching a new show on TV I would pick watching TV over studying. I know that I should be studying to keep my grades up, but I’d rather do something that isn’t difficult over something that is,” McCrady said.

“It’s only after it is too late that I realized that I made a mistake and waited until the last minute to study or even take a glance at my notes.”

Several reasons exist for this behavior, for instance low self confidence, stubbornness and manipulation are all aspects that a lot of people experience and they lead them to procrastinate.

In addition, it creates degrees of dissatisfaction, anxiety, frustration, resentment and stress.

People who suffer from this problem often follow the wrong direction when trying to minimize their commitments.

But what they are really doing is destroying the main source of motivation.

This physiological problem can always be avoided by putting into practice personal organization.

“I’ll do it tomorrow” doesn’t always cut it.
