Sweet spots for all on Valentine’s Day

Cassandra DeSalvo

This Valentine’s Day, treat a significant other to an unforgettable day with an extravagant event, leading to a cozy dinner for two, and ending with a dozen roses and chocolates. There are plenty of things to do around the Valley for both singles and those in relationships.

The events range anywhere from concerts, to theater performances, to dinners at unexpected locations. Take that special someone downtown to enjoy a laugh with Cedric the Entertainer or Robin Williams at the Dodge Theater, or enjoy a quiet evening watching Romeo and Juliet presented by Ballet Arizona at the Symphony hall in Phoenix.

For a great dining experience, take that special someone to the Pleasure Feast held at the Renaissance Festival in Gold Canyon, where the night will consist of a six-course meal followed by two hours of medieval entertainment; admission to the park is included in the dinner for two.

Another great dining idea is the Phoenix Zoo. They are holding the Jungle Love Valentine’s Date Night for ages 21 and over from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $70 per couple, with a limited number of spots available. The night includes insight into the bizarre rituals of animal mating, as well as drinks, dinner, and dessert.

If dining in one of these unusual settings is too out of the ordinary, then enjoy a quiet carriage ride through Old Town Scottsdale to see beautiful fountains, statues, and many other attractions. Or visit the Desert Botanical Gardens for a romantic walk through the exhibit to see the Chihuly glass sculptures.

Don’t think Valentine’s Day will be a bummer for those who don’t have a special someone. Hit up some of these local hotspots before Feb. 14 to find just the right girl or guy to be that important date. In Tempe, the Safeway grocery store on the corner of Rural and Broadway, is sometimes referred to as “hot Safeway” and known for the single college crowd. So throw on your most appealing outfit and head to Safeway not only to shop for groceries, but also shop for love.

Another common place to run into a potential date is at the local malls young guys and gals visit often, not only to shop for a new outfit but to find the man or woman of their dreams to go with it.

It’s not too late to find that special someone to spend Valentine’s Day with, just be in the right place at the right time, and everything else will fall into place.
